My Backyard Garden

My backyard garden is now on-line. I plant mostly roses in my garden. I have about twenty roses right now. I will plant some more next year.

You can click on the thumb-nail pictures to obtain the magnified versions.

* This is a picture of 'Bewitched'. I took the picture when the sun is out, so its color is washed out. Bewitched's bloom does not fade to white as some other pink roses. Unfortunately this particular plant is not vigorous in my garden.

* * 'Queen Elizabeth' starts out as medium pink, then gradually fades to white. Queen Elizabeth grows tall. Beside the fading problem, it is a good plant.

* * These are two pictures of 'Champaign Cocktail'. This is a floribunda with mixed pink and yellow coloring. When weather is hot, the pink coloring deepens to almost red. Champaign Cocktail has pleasant fragrance, and it appears to be disease resistant.

* 'Carefree Wonder' is my favorite rose. It just send out fragrant pink flowers constantly. Although rose catalogs say its fragrance is 'slight', to me its fragrance is very sweet when the bloom is just opening. This rose is always disease free. If there is any flaw, it has to be its fast opening to full open stage. I shot the picture when it is just right.

* 'Timeless' is a 1997 AARS winner. Its bloom has perfect form almost every time. Its color is red with some pink overtune. Growth habit is short and rounded.

* 'Secret' is a 1994 AARS winner. The bloom is white to light yellow fringed with coral pink. Fragrance is spicy.

* 'All That Jazz' is a 1992 AARS winner. The bloom has nice orange color with matching yellow stamins. The fragrance is medium citrus. The bloom is non-fading, and lasts a long time.

* * 'Bill Warriner' is a fragrant pink-apricot rose. This floribunda produces many long lasting flowers. Flower form is great.

'French Perfume' is easily scortched in hot weather. Surviving blooms develop deeper red coloration gradually. At fully open stage the bloom may be entire red fringed with some yellow.

* 'Marijke Koopman' is a medium pink rose. Frangrance is light spicy.

* These are two Cosmos flowers in the morning sun. Not shown are almost 100 more flowers on the same plant.

* There is a humming bird feeder in the back yard. I get humming bird visits all the time. They are quite bold, as you can tell from this picture. I took this picture at no more than two feet from the bird.
