Picking a brokerage service for selling US Treasuries

Treasury Direct is a great program for buying and holding US Treasuries at almost no cost. Unfortunately, if you need to sell Treasuries, you will have to first move the Treasuries to a brokerage account. When I checked into the topic of picking a brokerage house for the purpose of selling Treasuries, I was dismayed at the general high cost even the discount brokerage houses charged. Particularly biting is the 'account inactivity fee'. Being charged $50 a year for just keeping the account open is not fun.

After some searching, I found the Vanguard Brokerage Services seemed to be the most reasonable.

• They do not charge account inactivity fee.
• Transfer Treasuries from Treasury Direct is without fee.
• Income from Treasuries automatically transferred to money market fund.
• Selling Treasuries costs $25 + $3 per each $1000 sold; $50 maximum cost.
• Buying Treasuries at auction costs $25, through Vanguard Brokerage Services.
