February 9, 2000 - Yo! No I'm not dead! It just took a couple of you to email me wondering where I've been to bring me out of the silent masses of which I've become a part of since being injured. Status on the foot? Well, I had my third and final cortizone shot (final, because they won't let me have anymore) about 3 weeks ago. I took off a complete month after returning from Barcelona. I ended up not running the race because the foot just wasn't being cooperative. I started back trying to train a week ago, and unfortuantely, I'm still having some problems. The accute pain is gone, but I'm still dealing with some mile chronic pain. I'm only able to run about 3 miles before the foot starts to seize up on me. So....here are my options...either continue to stretch and get treatment and hope that the foot comes around....or....get surgery. For now, I'll stay away from surgery. I'm starting to accept the fact that the trials may not be in my picture, and it's my hope that if I can't do them, I'll at least maybe be able to round back into shape by the end of the season and get a couple of quality track races in and then hit the roads this summer. For now, I'm incredibly frustrated. It's been 8 months now, and I've only a few good quality months of training and racing in the last 2 years. I'm still very hungry when it comes to the running, and mentally, I'm nowhere near hanging them up....so.....Press On!
So what have I been doing with my time since I've been doing very little running? Well, my chiropractic and soft tissue specialist, Dr. Scott Greenapple, and I have gotten to be good friends. I've been going to his office anywhere from 3 to 4 times a week for treatment. I was doing some cross training by running in the pool and biking, but basically decided that I was only maintaining poor fitness, so why bother? I've also been working on a new Macromedia Flash website which will be up soon. It's kick ass...if I do say so myself! Only, you'll have to have a pentium to run it....486 or less will crash and burn! 200 mhz or higher to really appreciate it.
I may have some new career news to report in the coming week, so stay tunned! It has to do with a career change....I may be getting out of this computer gig and back to my roots.....running roots that is!
Cheers! Thanks for all the well wishes!
