Dr. Phillips Verner Bradford is retiring from the postion of Executive Director of the Colorado Advanced Technology Institute, better known by the acronym, CATI. He assumed this post in September, 1989. CATI was created by the Colorado Legislature in 1983 as the State's science and technology development agency to form and participate in public/private consortia to foster research excellence, technology transfer, and technology based business formations in Colorado.

Dr. Bradford has more than 34 years experience, including management roles in state government, academia, basic and applied research and product development in industry, and financial and investment analysis.

He has been an officer of two major universities: Associate Director of the Center for Advanced Technology, Computer & Information Systems and Director of the Center of Advanced Technology in Computers and Information Systems (CATCIS) and External Relations for the Computer Science Department at Columbia University in New York (1988-89), and Professor and Director for Corporate Research at Rutgers University, the State University of New Jersey in New Brunswick, NJ (1982-84)

He has served as Founder and Executive Director of the Kansas Advanced Technology Enterprise Corporation (KTEC) (1985-88), a state charter corporation dedicated to technology development; Professor of Electrical Engineering and Director of Corporate and Industrial Research at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey; Visiting Fellow in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at Princeton University, Manager of Energy Product Development, Phelps Dodge Industries (1977-1981); Management Staff Scientist, AMETEK, Inc., Paoli, PA, (1975-77); Industry Specialist, Merrill Lynch; Securities Analyst, Drexel Firestone, Inc. and Dominick & Dominick, New York, NY, (1969-74); and Technical Staff Member, Bell Telephone Laboratories, Inc., Crawford Hill, NJ, (1968-69).

Dr. Bradford has published numerous technical and non-technical articles on financial and managerial subjects for technical publications and seminar presentations. He has co-authored the "AMETEK Solar Energy Handbook", and co-authored the popular trade book, "Ota Benga - The Pygmy at the Zoo". He is or has been an active member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS); the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (IEEE); the New York Academy of Sciences and Sigma Xi (an honorary engineering society); The Association of Energy Engineers (Charter Member); ASHRAE; ASTM (Subcommittee Chairman); the Space Studies Institute; the International Copper Research Association (INCRA); and the New Jersey Research and Development Council.

He is a Patent Agent, Registration # 30,030, licensed to practice before the U.S Patent and Trademark Office.

He continues a legacy of his father, a Radio Engineer, who was a recognized member of the engineering team for the NASA Apollo missions.

Dr. Bradford is a native of Washington, D.C. He holds a BES degree from Johns Hopkins University, an MEE degree from the University of Virginia and an Sc.D. from Columbia University. He is a devotee of U.S. colonial and civil war history, and is an amateur astronomer.

Currently, Dr. Phillips V. Bradford is President and CEO of Sunrise Ventures, Inc., and also serves as an Adjunct Instructor at the Colorado School of Mines.

Dr. Bradford's wife, Camille, who graduated with an A.B. from the University of Pennsylvania and a J.D. from the Widener University School of Law, is an attorney.

He has two sons: Phillip G. Bradford, who holds a B.A. from Rutgers University, an M.S. from the University of Kansas, and a Ph.D. in computer science from Indiana University. He has recently served as a postdoctoral research scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Computer Science in Saarbrucken, Germany. He also worked for Reuters Analytics in Stamford CT working on financial modeling problems,and he was an Associate with Blackrock Financial Management, Inc. in New York City. He also served Professor in the Department of Business and Management of Rutgers University in Newark NJ. Currently, he is Professor of Computer Science at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, AL. Another son, Anthony Bradford, a graduate of the University of Maryland, currently working for Bloomberg LP, a financial news and media network in New York City.
