Description of CATCIS and accomplishments.
The Center for Advanced Technology in Computers and Information Systems (CATCIS) at Columbia University was one of ten Centers for Advanced Technology (CAT Centers) throughout the State of New York, sponsored by The New York State Science and Technology Foundation (NYSSTF). CATCIS at Columbia was located in the Department of Computer Science, which is within the School of Applied Science and Engineering.
My assignment and achievement.
I was the administrative director of CATCIS, charged with the responsibility of satisfying NYSSTF that it was meeting the deliverables under its contract with the Columbia University. I was also charged with the responsibility that CATCIS was conforming to the policies and rules of Columbia university
This task required a certain amount of redirection of the faculty interests toward business and economic development issues and away from "Ivory Tower" ideals. I was able to achieve this and convince the NYSSTF that CATCIS should remain funded.
