Brief Biography:

Mary Elizabeth Verner was born in Gainesville AL the first born child of her parents. In her early childhood, her father was in Central Africa, but by 1910, she moved with the family to the Panama Canal Zone. In 1919, when Mary was seventeen years old, she and her family moved back to the mainland United States. After a short stay in New York City, her family settled in the small town of Brevard NC. Mary graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she met her husband. After their marriage, Mary and Bill Allston lived at several locations in Miami, FL, finally settling in the community, Sunny Isles, on North Miami Beach, where she worked as a professional librarian, supported environmental causes, and was a director of a regional unit of the Girl Scouts. She also supported the Camp Fire Girls. She died in Miami in about 1987. Mary and William had two Children:
