Julia spent her early childhood (1907-1919) in the Panama Canal Zone during the time that her father was employed there as a health officer. She also received her initial primary education there prior to the time that her family settled in Brevard NC.
After completing her high school education in Brevard, she attended the University of North Carolina for a few years prior to completing her degree in Library Science at the American University in Washington DC. During her student years in Washington DC, she roomed with her younger sister, Laura, who was studying in Nursing School at the Children's Hospital of George Washington University.
After graduation, Julia relocated to Philadelphia to work in the Free Library, where she met her husband-to-be, Haydn Wyer, who was from Chicago. Haydn was named after the great Austrian composer Franz Josef Hyden (1769-1844), however it is not known if any genealogical relationship exists.
Their child, Judith "Judy" Wyer was born on Feb. 29, 1944.
Judith Phillips Verner was emotionally troubled from an early age and had been under medical treatment for severe depression. She may also have been suffering from a variety of physical ailments. Her demise proved fatal as she took her own life in Philadelphia in 1962.
