Brief Biography:

James Elderkin * (1698-1738) is the son of John Elderkin (Jr.)* (b. Apr. 6, 1664 in Norwich CT; d. Mar. 1714, Milford CT), and Abigail Fowler*, daughter of William Fowler* of Milford CT. John and Abigail were married on Feb. 8, 1685 in Norwich CT, and had the following children:

• John Elderkin III (Col.); b. 1694; m. Susannah Baker in 1714.
  • James and Susanna had 5 children:
    • Abigail Elderkin; b. 1715
    • Jedidiah Elderkin; b. 1717, Lawyer and Col. in Amer. Rev.
    • John Elderkin IV; b. Feb. 3, 1719; m. Rebecca Allen of Norwich in 1742, moved to Groton CT and had 2 sons.
    • Joshua Elderkin; b. 1720, Grad. of Yale, a.k.a. "Dr. J. Elderkin"
    • Susanna Elderkin; b. Aug. 12, 1722; m. Jabez Bigelow of Hebron CT.

• James Elderkin*; b. 1698; m. Phoebe Lee* (see above) in 1722, she was the daughter of John Lee* (1670-1716) and Elizabeth Smith*(1670-1761) of Lyme CT. Elizabeth Smith was the daughter of Richard Smith* (1619/20 - 1681/2) of Waterton MA, then Lyme CT and Joanna Quarles* (b. c1630), of Lyme CT.

John Elderkin (Jr.)* (1664-1714) is the son of John Elderkin* (c1600-1687) and his second wife, Elizabeth (Drake) Gaylord*, a daughter of John Drake*, and Elizabeth Rogers*; and widow of William Gaylord (1617-1656), of Windsor CT, for whom she was his second wife.

Elizabeth (Drake) Gaylord*, was born as Elizabeth Drake*, and is descended from the same Drake family from Devon, England, that produced Sir Francis Drake (c1541-1596). Sir Francis is the (perhaps illegitimate) son of Edmund Drake, and the grandson of John Drake and Margaret Cole

John Elderkin* (c1600-1687) was first married to Abigail Kingsland (1605-1660), whom he married in about 1630 in Lynn MA, and had 4 children. He married second, Elizabeth (Drake) Gaylord* on Mar. 1, 1659/60 at Windsor CT.
