John Bradshaw Verner; b. ca 1903, Gainesville AL; d. 1952?, Brevard NC

Brief Biography:

John Bradshaw Verner was born in Gainesville AL just prior his father's embarkation on his trip to Central Africa as a Special Agent for the St. Louis Exposition of 1904. John did not see his father, but on rare occasions, until he returned from Africa in 1908. John's early education was received in the Panama Canal Zone as his father was stationed there as a Health Officer until 1919. When his family returned to Brevard NC, John completed high school in Brevard, after which he may have attended Davidson College for a few years.

He married Sherrill Brumfield in Brevard. Her family has distinguished roots in Tennessee and Virginia.

Their child, Marion Verner, grew up in Brevard and graduated from the University of North Carolina. She pursued a career in broadcasting with the NBC affiliate in Charlotte NC. She married Jim McNeill and lived for many years in Charlotte prior to moving to Atlantic Beach NC were they resided until she died. They had no children.

John worked for the State of North Carolina in forestry and park maintenace prior to joining the Davey Tree Company.

His life and career were cut short when took his own life after he was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer in the early 1950s.
