Brief Biography:
Emily Crowe Singleton Foster* (1827-1912) , familiarly known as "Emma", was born in Greenville SC to Robert Singleton Crowe Foster* (b. 1779, Pinkneyville SC, d. Feb 11 1859, Greenville Dist. SC) and Susanna "Susan" Elizabeth P. Young* (1801-1881) of the Greenville Dist. Susan was the daughter of Richard Young* and his wife, Phoebe ___?*, also of Greenville SC.
Robert Singleton Crowe Foster* was the son of Lieutenant John Foster* (b. 1739, Amelia County VA; d. c1782, Greenville Dist. SC) and Eleanor Collins* (b, c 1744 VA; d. Greenville Dist.). It is uncertain whether John's rank of "Lieutenant" refers to a position in the American Revolution, the British Colonial Army in Virginia, or possibly the English Army. Eleanor Collins* was the daughter of Stephen Collins* (b. c1719, possibly in VA, but maybe in England or Ireland) and Elizabeth Hoggatt* (b. c 1724), a daughter of Anthony Hoggatt* (b. c1724) and Eleanor Crowe* (b. c 1724)
