m1. Mary Ann Elizabeth Smith on Sep 7, 1851 in Tallapoosa County, AL. She was a daughter of William W. Smith. Mary Ann Elizabeth was born in GA in 1832 and died in Coosa County, AL in about 1871. William Wynn Smith, a farmer, was born in NC, married Mary ___?, and moved first to GA in about 1831, and then moved in 1843 to AL where he owned and farmed 800 acres of land. Mary Ann was their oldest child of 9 children, 6 of whom were born in GA, and 3 in AL. George Varner and Mary Ann Elizabeth had 4 children.

John W. Verner; b 1834, Pendleton Dist., Anderson County, SC; d. Dec 21, 1862, Chattanooga, TN, in service with the Confederate Army during the Civil War. Rank: Pvt. GA Inf. 9th Bn. Co. C, CSA.
Thomas Jefferson Verner; b. Feb 8, 1836, Franklin County, GA; d. Feb 12, 1906 either in Comanche, Stephens County, OK, or in Comanche County, OK. Thomas did servive in the CSA in the Civil War, Rank Pvt. Co. C, 17th Reg. MSA Volunteers.
m. Melissa D'Angelia Francis in 1859 in Cherokee County, AL. Melissa was born in 1841 in AL, and died in 1888 in Pontohoc, MS. Thomas and Melissa had 9 children.
Lewis Franklin "Frank" Varner; b. Feb 1838 Franklin County, GA; d. 1902, TX. Frank did servive in the CSA in the Civil War, Rank: GA Inf. 4th Bn. (St. Guards) Co. C; later GA 11th Cav. Co. A.
m. Nancy A. E. Bellemey in 1863 in Franklin County, GA, Nancy was born in Oct 1839 in GA, and died Dec 26, 1900 in Smith County TX. Lewis and Nancy had 9 children.
