Cornelius C. Vermeule; b. Jan. 24, 1787. Cornelius studied medicine under Dr. Benjamin Rush of Philadelphia, joined the faculty of Rutgers College, became the Pastor of the Dutch Reformed Church of Harlem, NYC. His son Edmund C. Vermeule served the Union Navy with distinction in the Civil War.

Adrain and Maria had 5 children: Georgiana, Dennis Field, Cornelius Clarkson, Cornelia, and Adrain. Of these, Cornelius Clarkson (b. Sep 5, 1858 at Raritan Landing, NJ) married Carolyn Carpenter Blake, daughter of Col. Horatio Blake and Alida Carpenter Reed of Newburgh NY. Cornelius C. and Carolyn had two children Cornelius Clarkson Vermeule, Jr. and Warren Carpenter Vermeule. Cornelius Clarkson Vermeule, Jr. (b. NYC Sep9, 1895) m. Catherine Sayre, daughter of Benjamin Sayre and Adelaide Cornelia (Adams) Comstock. Cornelius C. and Catherine had a son Cornelius Clarkson Vermeule, III, born on Aug 10, 1925 at Orange, NJ, who died on Nov. 27, 2008 at Cambridge, MA. The late Cornelius Clarkson Vermuele, III was curator of classical antiquities at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston MA.
Cornelius Vermeule, Jr.* (1757-1824), known as Captain Vermeule or Vermeulen was born on the Blue Hills Plantation in NJ on June 30, 1757 and died Oct. 11, 1824. He was an Elder of the Bound Brook Presbyterian Church in NJ. Cornelius enrolled as a Private in the First Essex Militia Regiment. He was later promoted to Captain of the First Somerset Regiment and was active in the American Revolution. He remained a Captain until 1802.
