Brief Biography:
Antonius Thonges "Thuness" Ahlbach was born in 1663 in Flammersfeld, Germany. He was buried on Mar. 26, 1731 in Flammersfeld. His multiple names may reflect different versions of the English name, Anthony. "Antonius" would be the Latin version, perhaps used on official ducuments, "Tonges" may be an old German nickname, somewhat parallel to the modern "Tony", and "Thuness", similar to Tuneisen, Tunis, and Antuneisen, may be a colloquial German version of the modern name Anthony.
Antonius is the son of Hans Theis Ahlbach (___?-1703), and an unknown wife. Hans Theis Ahlbach is the son of Adam Ahlbach (1633-1715) and Agnes Garhard, who died in 1722. Adam is said to be the son of a family of wanderers who "came over the mountains from Tyrol", possibly to escape persecution. Adam's date of birth, Apr. 1, 1633, and baptism are in the records of the Church in Flemensrud, near the modern dorfer of Albach. Adam died on June 3, 1715.
