By following the line of descendancy: from Mercy Bradford (1660-1720) and Samuel Steele (1652-1710), to their youngest son, Eliphalet Steele (1700-1773), who married Catherine Marshfield (1701/2-1788), and had a daughter Mercy Steele (1727-1794) who married Capt. Noah Webster (1722-1813), one arrives at their son, the 4th of 5 children: Noah Webster, Jr. (1758-1843) the reknown Lexicographer.

Brief Biography:

Thomas Richards* (c1590-c1651) was born between 1590 and 1596 in England. He was christened on Apr 5, 1596 in Pitminster, Somerset, England. He may have emigrated to New England, with a relative, Nathaniel Richards, on the ship, Lyon, in 1632, and settled in Weymouth MA, where he was elected Freeman on May 29, 1644. He died before Jan 28, 1651 in Weymouth, MA, when his estate was probated. His father was Thomas Richards (b. c1560), of Pitminster, Somerset, England.

Thomas Richards* (c1590-c1650) was married in England to Welthian Loring* in about 1615. She emigrated, with her children, to Dorchester, Norfolk County, MA in 1633, following her husband by about one year. She died in 1679 in Boston, where her estate was probated on Nov 4, 1679. Thomas and Welthian had 11 children:

• Thomas Richards (c1619-1648); b. Pitminster, Somerset, England.

The elder Ephraim married 2nd to Ebbet Brimsmeade, and had 3 sons: William, Enoch, and Joseph. The Hunts are descendants of Enoch Hunt of Buckinghamshire, England. William Hunt, 1st son of Ephraim Hunt and Ebbet Brimsmeade, married Mary Bradford, daughter of Maj. William Bradford* (1624-1704) and Alice Richards* (1627-1671), see above and below.
