Biennial Flight Review

Objective:

Review current Federal Aviation Regulations, selected flight maneuvers and procedures appropriate to the pilot's certificate and ratings.

Elements:

A) FAR 43 review - airworthiness, preventive maintenance, periodic inspections, logbooks and records.
B) FAR 61 review - currency requirements, privledges and limitiations, logging requirements, personal documents,
C) FAR 91 review - subparts A-E
D) Preflight preparation and briefing, weather briefing, weight and balance, aircraft performance, local procedures, positive exchange of controls, command authority, checklist procedures
E) Prestart, start, taxi, runup
F) Normal takeoff, climbout, traffic pattern departure
G) Airwork to include: flight at minimum controllable airspeed, configuration changes, power off stalls, power on stalls, steep turns both directions, basic attitude instrument fight, unusual attitude recoveries, simulated emergencies, emergency descent, slips in both directions
H) Traffic pattern entry, normal approach and landing, short field takeoff and landing, soft field takeoff and landing, crosswind takeoff and landing, power off approach and landing
I) Post flight procedures, taxi, shutdown and securing
J) Post flight briefing

Schedule:

Ground Instruction: Elements A - D, J (1.0 hr minimum)
Flight Instruction: Elements E - I (1.0 hr minimum)

Instructor Actions:

Discussion, FAR 43, 61 and 91 topics
Discussion, using appropriate publications and current weather information, emphasizing sectional chart interpretation correlating part 91 rules and weather to various routes and destinations
Supervision, Elements D - I
Discussion, post flight
Log book endorsement or additional training as appropriate

Student Actions:

Bring current publications and personal documents
Obtain weather briefing
Answer instructor questions using appropriate publications and documents
Discuss any specific items needing review or desired
Conduct flight demonstrating proficiency to practical test standard

Completion Standards:

Student demonstrates adequate knowledge of technical subjects, where to locate and how to obtain information as needed.
Student demonstrates the ability to perform all flight maneuvers and procedures safely and within tolerances specified by practical test standard
