I'm sorry if I'm not very funny tonight, but I'm not a comedian, I'm Lenny Bruce.


Even by today's standards Lenny Bruce 's comedy routines would be shunned by all but the most radical censors. In his own time, the late fifties-early sixties America, Bruce's break all the rules pull no punches comedic monologues which featured the most vulgar obscenities laced with then unprecedented questioning of moral and social values led to a hurricane of criticism, cancelled tour dates, a string of obscenity arrests which left him broke, and a vicious drug addiction. He was always pushing the envelope , no matter what the consequences, a lifestyle which was as much responsible for his 1966 death as his drug addiction.
