Frank Lloyd Wright's
Falling Water, ( see also Fallingwater
- lots of photos at this site)
a home built for department store owner Edgar Kaufmann, has been called the most important architectual event of the twentieth century. I have never been there even though it is less than a 2 hour drive from my home. But I know many who have visited and all rave about the experience. The house is built not over but actually inside or perhaps more accurately on a waterfall. I don't really understand all the architectual descriptions in the web sites and books which dwell on the thematic and organic nature of the home but I personally don't think I would want to live there. I don't think I would like the constant sound of running water not to mention the inevitable dampness that would come with a house on a waterfall and I am not enamoured with the thought of boulders in my living and bedroom.
