George W. will probably reside here until 2009

Presidential elections are to the United States what the Olympics were to Classical Greece. Every four years atheletes would congregate at Olympia for sports competitions. In America every four years political candidates gather on television for political races. The impact is the same in both cases. A very diverse and geographically separated people is united in celebration of a national culture.
Having said that 2004 figures to be a very boring election year. The democrats have surpassed even themselves in their usual array of losers begging our votes. The front-runner seems to be Howard Dean, a man of absolutely zero charisma, who is governor of , of all places, Vermont.(remember Calvin Coolidge - they called him silent Cal) Then there is John Kerry, who - surprise - can be seen as a teenager in a photograph with President John Kennedy. I wish we could get through just one presidential election without a picture of a candidate with JFK. The Democratic Party certainly has gotten a lot of mileage out of a guy who was president for 1000 days forty years ago. Isn't it time we let him rest in peace. The only one left from the family is Caroline who was the ugly duckling of Camelot. She was never as glamorous as JFK, Jackie, and John Jr. i.e. nobody ever cared who she was having sex with. I have not seen anybody on the Democratic side even remotely capable of beating the not exactly scintillating George Bush. At this early date about the only thing that can prevent Bush's reelection is an earthquake that separates all the states west of the rockies from the continental United States.
If 2004 figures to be dull then 2008 could be one the liveliest elections in American History. Four years in American politics is what the Jurassic period is to geology but since this is a tongue-in-cheek analysis I can speculate just for fun. On the Republican side there doesn't seem to be anybody waiting in the wings. If there is a front-runner it is (can you believe it?) none other than Florida Governor and first brother Jeb Bush with Colin Powell a close second. On the Democratic side the clear front-runner for 2008 is Hillary Clinton. ( This link is, in a word, indescribable, and don't blame me Jeb and Hillary, you're the ones who chose a career in politics, since 2004 has so little to offer I decided to begin the mudslinging for the 2008 presidential election right here and now) It is blatantly obvious that Hillary has been being groomed for a presidential run in 2008 since the day she became a Senator. Won't it be fun to watch Hillary debate the donkey party's old boys network? Assuming Mrs. Clinton wins the nomination it will be even more fun to watch the debates between her and - say - Colin Powell. These could be the most fascinating debates since JFK made Nixon look like a nerd. Now that would be must see TV.
