Boss
Tweed is a modern synonymn for the corrupt politician

The most vivid academic memory I have of my student days at the University of Michigan almost thirty years ago is a lecture by a certain history Professor
Gerald Linderman,
Ten years before, in the 1960s, Linderman had been an official observer for the United States government during the formation of African governments in colonies which had recently achieved independence. In this lecture Linderman said that one of the things he learned from this experience was that not only was corruption inevitable, but a certain amount of corruption was the necessary glue that holds a government together. All too often that corruption expands to intolerable levels and is even occasionally exposed to the public. I have put together a small list of political corruption links ( there are many, many more), please remember that this is the world wide web where the freedom of unaccountability enables anyone to write anything.
