Julius Caesar
'All Gaul is divided into three parts' is one of the most famous first lines in the history of human writings.
Julius Caesar initiated his
epic The Gallic Wars with these words. This remarkable book, completed in just a few weeks, was the first time a conqueror and or politician put down in writing his version of the events of his life. Since Caesar it has become commonplace for generals and politicians to write memoirs to explain their actions thus illustrating Winston Churchill's famous quote
'History will be kind to me, for I intend to write it.'
