I visited Memphis, Tennessee in August of 1997. I remember the year because we got there, quite accidentally, in the middle of the 20 year anniversary celebrations of Elvis' death. I am not an Elvis fan but I took the tour of Elvis' Graceland home and let me tell you, this guy knew how to live! My female companion and I spent an entire night bar-hopping on Beale street where almost every bar and club has live music. I have been to dozens of major cities both in and out of the U. S. and heard a lot of live local music but I can say that the quality of the music on Beale Street is several levels above everywhere else, even New York and the Sunset Strip in L.A. If you ever find yourself in Memphis spend at least one night on Beale St. it is an experience you will never forget.
