This is our house in Urbana, pictured on an unnaturally warm February day after we returned from a bike ride.
We selected our house to be within walking distance of the campus of the University of Illinois, where Charlie is Professor of Business Administration. At the time we bought the house, I was a graduate student in Accountancy at U of I and also appreciated the proximity to campus. Now, I commute 55 miles to Bloomington three days a week, but I still enjoy the leafy, pleasant old neighborhood (in which our forty-five-year-old house is one of the newer ones).
The background of this page is called "light pine," but it closely resembles
the birch panelling found as accents throughout our house.
DenizensIn addition to Charlie and me, our household includes two very important members, Arthur and Fred.
Arthur is a bear whom I discovered in Arcola, Illinois, at an Amish craft shop, on August 1, 1991. I was supposed to be studying for a multivariate calculus exam, but took the day off to refresh my spirit. Arthur caught my eye because he matches our bed quilt.
Fred is a purple creature who joined the household on the occasion of our first
anniversary on September 20, 1993. Fred is a resourceful fellow, but he is sometimes a
little too mischievous for his own good. We have recently become fans of
"Dilbert," in part because Dogbert reminds us so much of Fred.
My brother Jeff Friedman also maintains a Web site.
