JJ's Carpenters Tribute Page

Hi, my name is JJ. It's a thrill for me to do a tribute page for the Carpenters, my favorite MUSIC MOOD group of all time. It's that voice, you know, Karen's wonderful contralto, that just sends me to another world! And Richard's terrific arrangements.. the perfection they insisted on with every recording, which is why we have 13 priceless albums and many remastering/remixing compilations today.

My obsession with the Carpenters began back in 1970, when I first heard "Close to You" on the radio. I've followed the Carpenters ever since, collecting their albums, posters, pictures, etc.

In 1996, I discovered a wonderful internet mailing list that was a Carpenter's fan club extraordinnaire!!! This list was called Newville Avenue", named after the street where the Carpenters grew up in Downey, California, and on which is still located that famous sprawling ranch style home that is featured on the cover of their fifth album, "Now and Then".

In February of 1997, I had the privilege of attending Richard's wonderful concert at the Karen and Richard Carpenter Performing Arts Center, on the campus of CSULB. Since that time, I have attended 4 Meets.. gatherings of the "Newville Avenue" Mailing List members. Through this list, I have been able to make wonderful friends that are mine for a lifetime. As Karen sang, "Good friends are for keeps!!".

The Newville Avenue Mailing List disbanded in July of 1999, after an extremely successful 30 Year Celebration, held in Downey. I keep in touch with the many wonderful friends I met through that mailing list.
