AVIAN REHABILITATION AT MANSFIELD DAM

We obtained our state and federal rehabilitation permits in 1983.  From 1983 through 1999 we worked with more than 3100 individuals, representing 120 avian species with particular emphasis on Chimney Swifts and other avian insectivores.

With the help of  local and regional veterinarians, nutritionists and microbiologists we have developed diets, care techniques and specialized housing designs.

Bird banding provided us with a wealth of post-release data and allowed us to evaluate the success (or failure) of our efforts. 

Much of our work has been published through the Driftwood Wildlife Association and is available as several bound publications.

Additional topics which we have addressed have been published by the National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association and are available in various volumes of
