SITE DESCRIPTION: The Driftwood Banding Station is located on 80 acres of private land on the Edwards Plateau in Hays County, approximately 30 miles west of Austin, Texas. We typically used 50 nets situated along a two mile loop. All were 30mm mesh except for one 121mm that was placed across a creek for larger birds. Habitat varies from semi-arid upland oak juniper to grasslands to riparian areas. We are situated on the confluence of two creeks -- one essentially permanent and one ephemeral. Banding took place year-round from 1981 thru 2000 with an emphasis in April and May. By the end of 2000 we had banded 44,419 individuals of 176 species, 7 sub-species / hybrids.
