NEIYA
Region Ice Yacht Sailing and Ice Reports.
Remember, conditions change daily. Ice boating is a dangerous sport. Don't sail alone. NEIYA is not responsible for conditions posted. The pilot is individually responsible for the evaluation of existing ice and sailing conditions at all times. This listing is provided as an unverified information resource for iceboaters in general and does not represent an NEIYA endorsement of any reported conditions. That said...
The NEIYA Hotline number is running between the middle to late November to the April. For a list of all the hotline numbers click here
Here's to a safe and fun season for our pilots. Remember there is ALWAYS thin ice somewhere.
Think ice!
The ice is back at Lake Quanapowitt, and very hard. I sailed 3/4s of it and saw no real hazards, about 8+" thick. The north half is much smoother, not bad at all with one 3" wide frozen over pressure ridge that you won't want to be parallel to. 5' closest to the shore along rte.129 was open water last weekend from roadway runoff. The numerous 2 foot drainholes seem to be all frozen over. The directions to the launch site are as follows:
