Netscape fans who
do not have any Netscape ver. 7 can go to
http://wp.netscape.com/download/archive/client_archive70x.html
and
get the 7.01 version. If you already have a newer Netscape: Any versions
that came with Java jre 1.4.1 OR above should be uninstalled.
ALSO, any sdk/jre over 1.4.0 that appears under Add/Remove
in the Control
panel should ALSO be uninstalled.
Then you should go to the link above.
In short, this is ONE way you can get a Netscape that works.
Go to the Netscape site above and take the appropriate download. This will get
you NSSetupB.exe and double clicking that after the download and taking the
Full Install
SHOULD get you the working Netscape w/ Java you need. OR, you
should be able to do the Regular Install and select the Java 2 option.
**BUT**, if you use this simple procedure do not also expect to install a jre
for IE and make sure you have no other jre's installed. There are
2 ways to get both browsers to run the program and one is described
on the page you came from. Another is described in the green paragraph
directly below.
It STILL remains
true that the official Recommended Procedure
on the web page
you came from is presently the only sure way to get things working. And, it
it can work for Netscape.
Here's how:
You can install Netscape (perhaps any version) WITHOUT any
Java 2. Then (at least with Netscape 7.01 -- for which this
procedure
is tested), you can use the recommended Java download/install procedure
in the red box on the web page you just came from and get the correct
jre for both IE and Netscape if you select both during the install process.
Specifically:
If you select both the IE checkbox and the Netscape 6 checkbox,
the
good jre plug-in will be applied to both browsers. I
would suspect this
would work for any Netscape Navagator (and, as I said, it does work for
7.01).
