I bought my machine from DirectWave in Dec. '96. All the negative remarks you've heard about them, believe it. The head honcho of DirectWave is not friendly at all, tech support was poor most of the time, and now I think they've split town, or gone out of business (website can't be reached, and no one answers the phone. Oh well, not much difference than when they were around.Does anyone know if they still exist? Their ads are still in Computer Shopper, and if you ask me, I think ZD Net and Computer Shopper are as much to blame as anyone, becausethey always had screamin' reviews for DirectWave (I think they were the only ones -- I wonder how much DirectWave paid them??), but let's get real....99% of the comments I've heardfrom customers have been very negative. The only good thing I got from buying from DirectWave was the knowledge I gained from endless hours of tinkering with my machine, because they never reliable (never returned calls, or very slow). Hard price to pay just to learn about computers.....
Any body know if these people (DirectWave) are still in business.Sent in broken motherboard and never received a replacement. No body answers the phone and site is not available. Thanks!
Tech support and customer service is non-existent. I have a personal file of dozens of unresolved complaints about the modem and VFD software that was installed. The company shipped two replacement modems with no software or instructions, both of them didn't work. The company has a file of approximately 100 complaints with BBB in California. 'Nuff said!
Customer support/Tech support hard to get hold of. Never return messages. Inept Tech support - reload Windows 95 seems to be their only answer to every problem. Last experience: Sent motherboard for repairs, sent with cpu, memory and cache installed. Returned motherboard without cpu, without memory and without cache. They claim that they are not responsible for these items, and therefore, I lost them. According to them, I was not suppossed the components with the motherboard, however, they never gave me any instructions. To top it all off, motherboard still doesn't work, all jumpers were not set correctly and not even sure if original problem was fixed. I had to take mb to local dealer for replacement parts and checkup and could not even bring the system up. Would not even recommend them to my worst enemy. They are NOT responsible is a very true statement and would not go the extra mile to help a customer
Computer received in 7 days. The computer would not boot up when I received it. I called tech support, got through first time. They talked probable suggestions off of a sheet(could tell they were reading it)Finally fixed it myself. The chip was loose, I fixed it. The computer seems to be ok for now. updates later.
System came without any set up instructions.Incorrect video card chosen in system properties.Wrong video driver installed.Wrong sound card driver installed.(customer service did send cd with correct sound card and driver setup when I called)email tech support has NEVER responed to over 20 email requests for help.I have NEVER spoken to any tech support at Directwave who answered a question I asked.(only got through to tech support on phone twice in over 20 attempts and several HOURS)Separate Hardware support line has helped on several occasions, but they often steered me back to Directwave.System itself is good, but I would only recommend to experienced user who likes to spend lots of time checking system and "tweaking".
