If you don't care about recording audio, this is no big deal. If you don't have to deal with Compaq's tech support & return policy, this is no big deal.We however record audio for a living, so let me go on record saying the Compaq Presario 233mhz Pentium II (Model 4824) has an audio problem which apparently cannot be fixed and getting one's money back from the computer giant is next to impossible. The model 4824 computer will not record "CD quality" audio (44.1khz, 16 bit stereo) from the line-in jacks without erroring-out. A new motherboard & harddrive did not fix the problem. Re-formating the harddrive & reloading Windows 6 times did not fix the problem. Our company logged 25 phone calls at an average of 35 mins each (14.5 hrs total including hold-time). Our technical bench time was an additional 32 hrs. This $1600 store-priced computer cost us as much in absorbed (internal) labor charges. Yes, we did finally get our money back, but Compaq was MOST RELUCTANT to do so. Warning: Unless you enjoy becoming repeatedly upset, unless you enjoy having to threaten legal action, unless you like keeping a journal of your every software install & de-install, your every phone call to tech support, each technician's name, the name of their supervisor, the time & length of each call, your sometimes changeable case number, and a solid description of each phone call and what was discussed, our suggestion is to:A) not buy Compaq B) buy from a local PC builder who's been in business for a while & has a nice store (after all, the computer industry has been making solid money for several years now, so the computer company you're prepairing to buy from should've been making money too). Whatever computer you buy, run it through every conceivable software operation & add all additional hardware promptly since it is nearly impossible to get satisfaction after your first 30 days of ownership. Conclusion: We are very dissappointed by our experience with Compaq, the corporation. This is our 15th computer and this ties for our worse experience (the other was a Mac) dealing with a computer & it's manufacturer.Mark HeleniakEarMark Productions
