Goal

Flight Across America, is a national grass roots effort whose goal is to reinvigorate the spirit of aviation and honor the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Pilots from all of our 50 United States as well as from the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, will be part of a procession of planes that will fly their respective state flags along the Hudson River, past Ground Zero and the Statue of Liberty on September 8, 2002. The pilots will then meet aboard the USS Intrepid (the floating aircraft carrier/museum docked on Manhattan’s West Side) for a ceremony to present the official flags to the City of New York in a show of solidarity and support -- marking the first anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. There will also be ceremonies held in the Washington D.C. area as well as Somerset, PA, to honor the victims of those tragedies..

Connecticut’s Representative

Stephen Solenzio a Connecticut resident for 40 years, will be the Connecticut State flag bearer, carrying the Connecticut State flag in his single engine Piper Archer airplane. He will be joined by crew member Lisa Parente, also a Connecticut resident. Stephen understands the importance of this event, "I am very proud to represent the State of Connecticut. I want to honor all those affected by the tragedies of 9/11 and promote both general and commercial aviation as a vehicle for peace and unity -- as opposed to a method of terror," stated Solenzio.
