Biographic Profile:   Mark L. Butler

Mark Butler, MCTV Programming Coordinator for the Maricopa County Community College District in Maricopa County, AZ, formerly served as Video Production Manager for the Maricopa Institute for Arts and Entertainment Technology (M.I.A.E.T.).  The Institute originally provided the bulk of the locally produced public service, arts, sports and entertainment content for MCTV, the Maricopa Colleges Television station.  Headquartered on the campus of Scottsdale Community College, MCTV serves the students and faculty of the ten Maricopa Colleges and the greater Phoenix, Arizona community, at large, over Cox Digital Channel 115

Mr. Butler joined the MCTV team just in time to participate in and contribute to the success of the channel's first full academic season, beginning in August, 2001, after managing the Audio Video Services for the District Support Services Center in Tempe, AZ, for almost five years, during which time he provided production and post production support for training materials and other content for the developing IP/TV "Video to the Desktop" internal digital video distribution system and also created and/or maintained early departmental websites for the Audio Visual, Telecommunications, Library Technical Services and District Network Support Services departments.

Previously, Mark was responsible for the technical operations of the SUNDIAL Network teleconferencing system (at Rio Salado Community College) from its founding in 1982 until its final transition in January 1997, and prior to that, he was the network teleconference technician for WETNET (the Washington Educational Teleconference Network) at the University of Washington in Seattle.

Butler originally received his formal technical training in telecommunications as an Interior Communications Electrician in the U.S. Navy, where he served on both a submarine and an aircraft carrier in the Atlantic and Mediterranean fleets during the cold war / Viet Nam conflict era.

He has worked for Pacific Northwest Bell (now Qwest) as a station and special services installer and has also held positions as a photographer for Fishing & Hunting News, a computer R&D technician, a security systems designer, and as an exhibit technician for the Pacific Science Center in Seattle. Mark has an Associate of Arts degree (Media Technology) from South Seattle Community College. As of November, 2007, Mark Butler celebrates 25 years with the Maricopa Colleges.
