Comments: I am searching for the root of the surname ORMOND, which is supposed to descend from the Butlers of Kilkenny. My family line began with James Ormond Sr (b. 1666 or 1669, in Great Britain), who migrated to Mecklenburg County, North Carolina (date unknown, early 1700s presumed), and whose family name eventually changed to ORMAND, then to ORMAN (in Alabama). I would appreciate any information on how this family name began, and any information about this "James Ormond." (Note: It is a "given" in our family that we descend from the Butlers of Kilkenny, but the exact association is unknown.)

Comments: Hey fella, I just got back from my two week trip to Ireland. (Okay, I lied, I got back on the 17th.) It was WONDERFUL! A "wee" bit of rain, or is that "Seattle Sunshine"? I loved it. Planning on going back in August, with John in tow. He wanted to go this time, but I had an agenda. Don't know what it was, but... I went all over the place and saw lots of castles. Only took 10 1/2 rolls of film. Almost all the pictures turned out. Got some people (mostly other tourists) to take photos of me. Kissed the Blarney Stone. Had a sip of my first Guinness. A sip was all I could handle. I dislike Guinness. I did have an ale and liked that. Some traditional music, but not as much as I would have liked. I went to Dublin (of course), Cork, Waterford (crystal factory, naturally), Cashel (to visit the "Rock"), Blarney (smooch, smooch) and travelled through lots of little towns before landing in Doolin. Saw the Cliffs of Moher, and walked several miles (no buses) to Lisdoonvarna - the Matchmaking town of Ireland. Then, back to Dublin and shopping!! When we talk next I'll tell you more about the trip. It's still taking me some time to get used to being back. I really miss my Ireland. I did find out that my greatgrandmother on my Dad's side was born in Sligo, Ireland, in 1843. Of course, Mom's maiden name was Dolan, so that's real Irish and there was a chain of electrical stores called "Dolan". I felt right at home there. I wanna go back! Comments: Hey, Mark. How's it shaking? I'm over at Colleen's-- we're getting ready to see Riverdance at the Paramount-- and she's showing me your homepage. I'm hurt you did not include me in the Photo Album, but then, I'm mostly Scots and you probably forgot the Irish side of me (besides being the LEAST photogenic of Colleen's siblings.) Anyway, I like your homepage. I've taken up knitting and golf and am kept extremely busy at that agency (31 years in July). I'm the office automation coordinator for my division and am having a great time lousing up all of our computers. Everyone is amazed I don't have one of my own at home since I'm really good at messing up theirs! It came naturally, I guess. Well, we gotta go grab some dinner and see the show.
