Below is a picture of me taken at the Gold's
Gym in Lancaster Pennsylvania after my Natural American Championships victory
in October of 1995(15#'s of water later
after pigging out of course!!).
.
I have been competing since 1983 but have never been as sharp as I was this past year.
I'm originally from Lackawanna, NY(Go Steelers!) but have been living in
Pennsylvania since I left for college in 1977. A lot of people ask about my 'dimensions...
I'm 5'11". In the off-season weigh about 265#'s. At the NGA America and USA about
218#. Measurements are chest-51", arms-20.5", waist-34", thighs-30".
These are all off season measurements. I never measure myself while I'm getting ready for
shows nor do I care to. If I haven't done the things I need to do by then it's useless.
One thing that is very significant is that my loss of muscle is kept to a minimum during
dieting. For natural bodybuilders this is essential! I hear alot about how 'You can't be
natural... you're too big to be natural... you're too lean to be natural" blah, blah,
blah. First of all I must admit I am genetically gifted, but also I train smart and eat
smart. I have never in my life patterned my training around anyone else but myself. Sure I
listen to information but I learned how to take that info and apply it to ME! I train
according to what my body says I should be doing... not what I read from druggies in
bodybuilding mags. While dieting for my last 6 shows I lost absolutely NO STRENGTH at all!! Actually, during the last show
I got stronger up until the week before the show!! That amazed me... but
it's all due to my supplementation. Knowing what supplements to take and what stages to
take them in. Very criticaI for the natural bodybuilder putting his/her system through the
rigors of contest training and dieting. . The last few years I have enjoyed great success in the higher levels of
bodybuilding because of my adherence to my plan for both muscular growth and conditioning.
Again, natural bodybuilders really have to be careful in taking advice from mages or
others who use anabolic steroids. Natural bodybuilders cannot afford to train physically
and nutritionally the way those on steroids do because we do not have the additional
"super supplements" running through our veins. As naturals we cannot
nutritionally and physiologically
afford to train that way. The
impact can be devastating... overtraining(a bodybuilders worst nightmare), injuries, etc).
We have to be smarter in our training and our nutrition. If we are not, besides showing up
at the competition looking like death warmed over, most often those are small, weak and
over trained. That's why a lot of natural bodybuilders figure they can't do it without
drugs and
turn to "THE DARK SIDE". Steroids allow
the body to recuperate at a much faster rate(did you know if you have surgery you have had
steroids? why? RECUPERATION!!!). It allows much greater leeway than the natural
alternative in the way of making the mistakes of overtraining nutritional deficiencies,
etc. Don't get me wrong though. Those that do take drugs have problems also. maybe you
have seen some. When the chemistry(literally) is not correct many bad things can happen.
Being a successful natural bodybuilder is attainable! The proper training, nutrition and supplementation and I'm here to tell you... you can do
it!!!
Currently I am getting ready for the 1998 WNBF
Natural World
Championships in November. If you get a chance say hi if you make it down(up). Right now I
am about 4 months out from the show. I'm around 265# right now. I have postponed
guest posing so I can concentrate on getting ready for the Pro Natural World Championships
and hopefully bring home bacon.
If you happen to see me around come up and say hi...
In
1996 I finished third in the Pro Natural World Championships(one point out of second) and
had to take time off due to an auto accident.... I plan to be back with a vengeance. In
1996 it was a good experience for me to do so well. The photo shoot I had with
TwinLabs(Muscular Development) after the event went well also. It is great being
recognized as one of the elite natural bodybuilders on the planet and I believe the
Natural Bodybuilding movement is finally taking off. I flew out to the Golds' Gym in Port
Jefferson, NY for a photo shoot with Muscular Development Magazine a week after the
show(11/15). It was pretty cool. I can't believe we were shooting film for 7 hours
straight!! Man... it was harder than training! Some of the photos you see here on the
front page are photos from the photo shoot there and they have been featured in Muscular
Development magazine. Organizations like Muscular Development and the World Natural
Bodybuilding Federation(WNBF) have taken a serious approach to Natural Bodybuilding and
the results are starting to pay off.
In listening to what most of you are saying, a method was needed for an expert to review
your training and nutrition and give you feedback. I now am providing that service.
Also write me for personalized nutrition and training information(sorry, my time is not
'free') for those preparing for competition or interested in improving their fitness
levels.
