SAVE OPEN LAND IN DUPAGE

· Segmentation

DuPage County is performing one study of routing the road through Fermilab, another for the section from Rt 38 to Rt 64, and was proposing another study for the path through Pratt's Wayne Woods. The overall effect of the 4-lane highway is not being investigated. The traffic on the road when the sections are connected will likely be much higher than the traffic volumes cited in individual studies. Are we being told one traffic estimate to get the road approved, only to find that the real volume of traffic resulting from the entire road project will be much greater?

· Contradicts 1997 open space bond referendum by DuPage voters

DuPage County voters approved a referendum to issue bond to pay for the purchase and protection of open space. Voters have recognized that there is little open space left in DuPage and now is the time to preserve it. The vote also showed that people want open space enough to be willing to increase their taxes. The County Board's proposal directly contradicts the voter's mandate.
