An Inconvenient Truth, Sunday, Oct. 8

Film "An Inconvenient Truth," will be shown at Woodside<= /st1:PlaceName> Road United Methodist Church on Sunday, October 8, 6-8 pm. Please come, and bring friends! This is a powerful presentation about the causes and effec= ts of global warming, and what we should be doing to slow that down. T= his will be sponsored by the Youth Group of First Congregational Church and <= st1:place w:st=3D"on">Woodside Road United Methodist Church. Although this film is still in theatres, the Council on Interfaith Power = and Light is promoting wide exposure of it during the first week of October. CIPL is an organization of people of faith who are dedicat= ed to developing new energy sources and reducing pollution that is altering = the earth's weather. They will supply a copy of the DVD and supporting material free to us. The youth will be selling refreshments.

Youth & Young Adult Ministry Forum Tomorrow

Ken Brown, Associate for Youth and Young Adult Empowermen= t (UCC Justice and Witness Ministries), and Rev. Da Vita D. McCallister, Minister for Youth and Young Adults (UCC Local Church Ministries), will share tran= sformational program ideas for youth and young adults at the second Northern California-Nevada Conference Forum for the Future, Saturday, Sept. 16, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m, at Congregational Church of San Mateo, 225 Tilton Avenue, S= an Mateo. If you didn’t RSVP yet, just come!

Fall Youth Program

Fall Youth Group meetings will be every other Sunday evening, starting Sept. 17: 6-8 pm, in room 7 at the Woodside<= /st1:PlaceName> Road United Methodist Church. All youth entering grades 6-12 are warmly invited to join us. This progra= m is jointly sponsored by the First Congregational and Woodside Road United Methodist Churches. World Communion Sunday, October 1

Come celebrate a joint Worship Service Sunday October 1, = world communion Sunday, with Iglesia Apostolica. Enjoy spirited worship and a community potluck.

Coffee Hour

Our fellowship time following worship is dear to us. In its own way it is sacred as o= ur prayers and songs. We need one or two volunteers to sign up for coffee ho= ur each week. It means setting up hot water, laying out the table with suppl= ies and very simple refreshments, and quick clean-up afterwards. Together we = all provide the Spirit and the love! Please pick a Sunday and sign up.

Iraq: What Next? Thursday, September 21

Ray McGovern, founder of Veteran Intelligence Professiona= ls for Sanity, and David Abernethy, Stanford Professor Emeritus of Political Science, will join in dialogue with local interfaith leaders, offering thoughtful and faithful insights on next steps for Iraq and future U.S. foreign policy.

RAY McGOVERN was Captain in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 19= 64 and a CIA analyst for 27 years. From 1981 to 1985 he conducted daily briefings for Ronald Reagan's vice president, George Bush.

DAVID ABERNETHY taught at Stanford from 1965 to 2003. An = expert on European imperialism, colonialism and nationalism in the Third World, he published The Dynamics of Global Dominance: Europe= an Overseas Empires, which shows how contemporary international relations ha= ve been shaped by the colonial era.
