Educational Philosophy

My educational philosophy is rooted in multi-age where the classroom is child-centered and students are responsible for their own learning. I provide an environment where students are active and independent learners who view learning as a lifelong process. I have a holistic view of learning and teaching based on current research. I believe the focus should be on the whole child, including physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth. Knowing the students over a period of time
(3 years in the intermediate multi-age classroom), allows me to build on their strengths and address their needs at their developmental level. I offer the opportunity for success and provide experiences which are also challenging. An enviroment where students feel safe and are free to take risks without experiencing failure is of paramount importance. Students are actively engaged in learning and are responsible for their own behavior. In my student-centered classroom which is process-oriented, students make choices and grow in responsibility. My role is to promote this type of environment, facilitate learning, and model learning. I have developed a relationship with the students over a three year span that fosters independence, responsibility, and a love of learning.
